Is the Metaverse a Future Trend?
In this modern era, technology has played a major role in human’s daily life. In many various fields, technology has been a great tool that is able to make life easier, removing distance from people living around the globe, and many other things. Quoting the Detik page, TechVision conducted a survey of factors that can determine long-term strategy. As a result, as many as 97 percent of Indonesians agree that technology is the most reliable factor compared to other factors, such as economic, social, and political.
This technological transformation has had a significant impact on industrial markets around the world. Over time, these new technological developments can solve global challenges and make life easier. The Social Media Trends 2021 report by Talkwalker, entitled “Insights to Actions: How to Disturb a Disruptive Customer” highlights some of the upcoming social media trends. One of the interesting things about this report is that the metaverse topic will become a trend in Southeast Asia. It is estimated that there will be more than 5.9 million conversations on social media related to metaverse. In last year’s 2020 report, Indonesia received the highest engagement, reaching 60 percent of all conversations.
The concept of the metaverse is the future of the virtual three-dimensional world of the internet. This metaverse has combined both Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Augmented Reality (AR) mixes real world elements with virtual elements, whereas Virtual Reality (VR) creates a completely virtual environment. The existence of this metaverse allows users to carry out activities such as attending concerts, working, traveling, creating or viewing works of art, and trying on digital clothes to buy. This sophisticated technology is not only closely related to activities carried out digitally or virtually, but can also use currency units to make transactions in it.
Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, stated on the Kontan website that the potential for the metaverse in Indonesia is enormous. According to him, the metaverse must be optimized for the benefit of economic recovery and job creation. He believes that the metaverse can drive the digital economy, where Indonesia has enormous potential with 600,000 digital talents per year. In addition, there is a potential of 30 million MSMEs and an economic contribution that is predicted to reach 150 billion US dollars by 2025. The adoption of crypto assets and blockchain as part of the virtual world being built will accelerate the development of the metaverse.
In this new environment, marketers must focus on building symbiotic relationships through better understanding online conversations and taking action more quickly. Metaverse is a new understanding that will help users create meaningful experiences and come up with new solutions to various problems facing Indonesia today.
